Fowler taking charge of weather-delayed Classic

Favourite-backers are enjoying the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, with world number ten Rickie Fowler performing superbly.

Fowler was the stand-out name in the OHL line-up and the Mayakoba debutant has thrilled his supporters by moving to ten under par through 33 holes at the El Camaleon course. Bad weather caused round-two suspensions and darkness meant a premature end to Friday play.

Fowler, 9-1 for OHL glory ante-post, has shortened to 13-8. Punters should be aware, though, that he must tackle two of the most difficult holes on the course – the 16th and the 18th – in his remaining round-two work.

Fowler is one shot behind Patrick Rodgers, who started from the tenth and has three much easier round-two holes to play on the front nine. The gap between US Tour maiden Rodgers and Fowler may extend prior to round three, but Fowler obviously has more chance of success over the weekend.

Play is scheduled to resume at 12.30pm UK and Ireland time, with round two completed before round three commences. Another wet and breezy day is forecast.

In-running punters eager to get involved at this stage should consider Austin Cook, who lies in 20th spot, but has eight holes of his second round to play. Cook has safely negotiated most of the difficult holes and has a welcoming stretch to the clubhouse.

The 50-1 about Cook, a rising star of the circuit, looks generous given he could be within three or four shots of the lead at halfway if he takes advantage of his round-two opportunities.
