Three things to watch out for in the Olympic Games on Friday.

Best bet

New Zealand to win women’s coxless pair
1pt 7-5 Paddy Power

The women’s coxless pair could be one of the races of the Olympic rowing regatta but it may be the New Zealand pair of Grace Prendergast & Kerri Gowler, twice world champions, who prevail.

Glover 9-2 to win third gold

Rowing from 2am Saturday

Double Olympic rowing champion Helen Glover begins her bid for a third successive gold in the women’s coxless pair in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Glover, who won in London and Rio alongside Heather Stanning, and crewmate Polly Swann are in the second heat alongside fellow medal hopefuls Australia.

Favourites New Zealand are in the third and final heat as are the Irish pairing of Monika Dukarska & Aileen Crowley.

GB hoping to right Rio wrongs

Hockey from 1.30am Saturday

Team GB’s women’s hockey team struck gold in Rio but the men’s side suffered a disappointing campaign.

Britain’s men won just one of their five group games as they failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

It is now 33 years since the men’s team won their last hockey medal – gold at Seoul 1988 – and they are 13-5 to set foot on the podium in Tokyo.

Danny Kerry’s squad get their medal bid underway against South Africa at the Oi Hockey Stadium Saturday morning at 10.30am and are 1-40 to get off to the best possible start.

Koreans’ sights trained on target

Archery from 1.30am Saturday

South Korea are the undisputed top dogs of Olympic archery and are overwhelming favourites to take gold in the inaugural mixed team event.

The Koreans have plundered 23 archery golds since 1972, six more than all other nations combined.

The mixed team event is new for Tokyo but at 3-10 it looks likely the Koreans will extend their dominance with bow and arrow.
