Vinales can renew love affair with Silverstone
Yamaha set for revival
British Grand Prix qualifying
BT Sport 2, 2.10pm Saturday
After a superb start to the season Yamaha have gone off the boil recently, but they look set for a revival in this weekend's British Grand Prix.
Maverick Vinales scored his first premier-class victory at Silverstone last season for Suzuki, and began his Yamaha career by winning the first two races of the season.
Vinales has managed just one podium in the last five races, but he renewed his love affair with Silverstone by going fastest in first practice yesterday while he was third to home hero Cal Crutchlow in the afternoon.
To confirm Yamaha's upturn in form, Valentino Rossi was second in the afternoon, a whisker ahead of Vinales.
Marc Marquez has been making hay lately, stringing together five straight podiums and taking a 16-point lead in the championship.
However, he had a poor first day in Britain with two crashes, one a high-speed tumble from which he was lucky to escape uninjured.
The Honda man ended the day fifth fastest, but he is still odds-on to take his fourth pole position in a row and sixth of the year.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him bounce back, but Marquez makes no appeal at the price.
Crutchlow set the fastest time of the day and took pole position in a wet qualifying last year, but the Yamahas looked more stable in practice and Vinales looks the best bet for pole.
