Betting preview

Bookmakers and punters alike are in strong disagreement as to the chances of Tiger Woods performing well in the 150th Open Championship.

Woods used to be the king of St Andrews, winning at 19 under in 2000 and then 14 under in 2005, but life has obviously changed a lot for the greatest player of his generation in recent years. A body battered by regular surgeries and a well documented car crash may not be ready to get anywhere near those scores of old.

With half of his calf muscle missing in his right leg since his accident, Woods walks with great discomfort, and he opted to skip the US Open to save himself for the Open at his beloved St Andrews.

Bet365 report Woods as their biggest outright liability, so some punters still believe the 46-year-old can lift the Claret Jug again, but the 13-8 dangled by BoyleSports about him missing the cut is too tempting to ignore.

A seven-over-par 36-hole effort in the JP McManus Pro-Am last week did not encourage Woods fans that he has one last hurrah left in him.
