Alexander Noren won the French Open in gutsy fashion at the start of this month and the amiable Swede will have high hopes of following compatriot Henrik Stenson into the pantheon of Open champions this week.

Noren has excelled on five occasions this year, losing a playoff at Torrey Pines in January, then finishing third in the Honda Classic, third in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, third in the BMW PGA Championship and first in Paris. His game has been standing up well on tough courses and Carnoustie will hold no fears for him.

Noren finished sixth in the Open at Birkdale last year, suggesting he had finally got to grips with the unique event in his seventh appearance, and he looks a solid bet at 5-6 to outscore Jason Day over 72 holes at Carnoustie.
