Leinster Senior Hurling final
Kilkenny v Wexford
Croke Park, 4pm Sunday

The Leinster final also features two sides who met two weeks ago as Wexford and Kilkenny do battle at GAA HQ.

The sides couldn’t be separated when they met at Wexford Park in the last round of the round-robin series but a draw was enough to see them both progress to the final and there’s likely to be little between them again.

Wexford and Kilkenny both knew their seasons were on the line when they met but Dublin did them a huge favour by knocking out Galway.

Wexford produced possibly their best performance of 2019 but Davy Fitzgerald may be a little concerned that they failed to get the win.

Although draws with Galway, Dublin and Kilkenny aren’t bad results, they had chances to win all of them and potential backers would have liked to see them get over the line at least once.

It’s a worry that they performed so well and still failed to win, while Kilkenny may have more in the tank. Matthew O’Hanlon did a stellar job shutting down TJ Reid and to keep Reid scoreless from play is some feat, but it’s unlikely he’ll be able to do the same in the bigger spaces of Croke Park and Brian Cody is sure to have a plan up his sleeve.

A return to Croke Park is definitely more of an advantage to Kilkenny than Wexford and it could prove the difference. Four of Kilkenny’s starting side have already won an All-Ireland there this year when Ballyhale Shamrocks won the Club All-Ireland final and that will give them a huge confidence boost, in particular young sharpshooter Adrian Mullen. Mullen was named Club Hurler of the Year earlier this year at just 19 and he, TJ Reid and Colin Fennelly hit 2-13 from play between them in that final.

Kilkenny can get their scoring mojo back and they have scored more than 25 points in three of their four games.

There looks to be more improvement in Kilkenny than Wexford. This is a big chance for Kilkenny to stake their claim for the All-Ireland throne and book themselves a semi-final slot.
