Monaghan v Armagh
BBC iPlayer, 6.30pm Saturday
Monaghan and Armagh are going in very different directions right now and the gulf in class between the pair can be exposed at Castleblayney on Saturday night.
Kieran McGeeney's Armagh start 2023 as genuine league and All-Ireland contenders whereas Monaghan will simply be looking to consolidate their Division 1 status as new manager Vinny Corey settles in at the helm.
Armagh have so many attacking options and the age profile of their squad suggests everything is in place for a big year.
They began last year's campaign with a shock five-point win over Dublin followed by a six-point success over Tyrone - and we can expect a similarly explosive start this time around.
Mayo v Galway
RTE2, 7.30pm Saturday
Mayo can get the Kevin McStay era off to a perfect start with victory over arch-rivals Galway at MacHale Park.
Galway might have named 11 starters from their All-Ireland defeat to Kerry, but there is no Shane Walsh in the team and that takes away plenty of their scoring power.
This is a far more important game for Mayo than it is for Galway and it is worth remembering they reached the Division 1 decider last year.
Cillian O'Connor came off the bench to score two points in Mayo's FBD League final win over Roscommon recently and adding him to a forward line that includes the lively pair of Ryan O'Donoghue and Tommy Conroy has the potential to break down the Tribesmen.
Roscommon v Tyrone
tg4.ie, 1.30pm Sunday
Tyrone look terrific value to defy a three-point handicap against Roscommon, who could turn out to be the also-rans of the top division.
Tyrone, All-Ireland champions in 2021, never got going last year but they have the potential to be league and championship contenders in 2023 and ought to have far too much firepower for the Rossies.
Niall Morgan, Peter Harte and Cathal McShane started on the bench in last week's McKenna Cup final defeat to Derry but expect that trio to have much more of a say on Sunday.
Donegal v Kerry
TG4, 2pm Sunday
Kerry may be without wonderboy David Clifford for their league opener with Donegal but they should have more than enough in reserve to make a winning start to the campaign.
Donegal manager Paddy Carr and head coach Aidan O'Rourke were late appointments, taking over from Declan Bonner, and the retirement of Michael Murphy at the age of 33 was a bit of a shock. His leadership and scoring power would surely have been an asset to Donegal for another year or two.
This is very much a transitional period for Donegal, whose early-season form looks worrying given they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Down in the McKenna Cup and were beaten by Monaghan too.
And the worst possible team to be facing first up in the league are All-Ireland champions Kerry, who will head to Ballybofey with a swagger.
They should make the long journey home with maximum points after a comfortable victory.
