Leinster Championship: Wexford v Laois
Wexford Park, 6.30pm Saturday

Laois set sail for the south east on Saturday evening to kick off the 2018 Leinster Championship and John Sugrue's side are strongly fancied to defy a four-point handicap against a Wexford side in disarray.

Having slid down the pecking order in Leinster, Laois restored some pride by snatching some silverware this spring, winning the Division 4 league title in style against Carlow at Croke Park.

That was a clear indication that Laois are getting better and it would come as little surprise to see them have a prolonged stay in the All-Ireland race.

Robbie Pigott and Colm Murphy will be unavailable to Sugrue after heading to America for the summer but the classy Gary Walsh is back in the panel having been dropped for the Croke Park clash against Carlow. That is a bonus.

Wexford managed only one win in Division 3 during the spring against an already promoted Armagh side and will have their work cut out for them when the Division 4 champions come to visit.

This game is Laois's for the taking and it should be all one-way traffic.
