TJ Reid is hot favourite to be crowned hurler of the year and while he has had a stunning season and will finish the campaign as top scorer, he looks far too short to out-score Jason Forde in a scoring match bet.

The Tipperary free-taker has helped himself to 2-59 in his seven games, an average of 9.28 points per game, and with Tipperary fancied to land the spoils, he could play a pivotal role in the success.

Forde’s free-taking has been pretty flawless this year and his contributions from open plan have been impressive too. Odds of 5-4 about him out-scoring Reid look generous.

And Forde also looks too big at 16-1 for the man-of-the-match accolade given how short teammates such as Seamus Callanan, John O’Dwyer and John McGrath are in that market.

Tipperary exploded from the traps in Munster earlier this summer and their ability to score goals saw them ease to a Munster final.

They were top goalscorers in the round-robin series in Munster with eight goals in four games.

Callanan has been in red-hot goalscoring form all summer and Liam Sheedy is sure to target a fragile Kilkenny full-back line. If the Tipperary attack is on song, there could be lots of goals on the menu and odds of 8-11 on Tipperary scoring two or more goals make plenty of appeal.

They will need goals to cull the Cats and it would come as little surprise to see them net three or four times.
