Wexford v Galway

TG4, 5pm Saturday

This is a tough match to call given Wexford have had fruitful league campaigns in recent years. They have won eight of their ten group games in the league over the last two years and are likely to prove hard to beat, especially considering Lee Chin looks to be back to full fitness having played a part in the Walsh Cup.

That being said, Galway should be strong in the early stages of the league as Henry Shefflin is likely to push the squad early as they got going too late last year after a disappointing effort against Kilkenny in the Leinster final. This match doubles up as a Walsh Cup final so both teams seem to have made a conscious effort to make a bright start to the campaign.

One of Galway's most impressive traits is their physicality but Wexford boast some imposing players in their ranks including Chin, Conor McDonald and Liam Ryan, and this should be a tight match. The draw is worth chancing.

Cork v Limerick

RTE 2, 7.30pm Saturday

Limerick lost their first game of the campaign last year to Wexford and drew the previous year with Tipperary, while Cork are typically eager to start as they mean to go on and recorded impressive wins over Clare and Waterford first time out in 2022 and 2021.

Cork have named a strong team for the clash, including Conor Lehane, Robbie O'Flynn and Patrick Horgan in the forwards. Limerick have also selected a formidable side with eight of their regulars set to start but Cork may be sharper given Limerick's record in the league in recent years. They may be looking to find their feet in the first couple of rounds before unleashing their full potential in Munster if the last few seasons are anything to go by.

In contrast, Pat Ryan will want to get some confidence and impetus into his Cork side early on in his first year in charge and he has the fire power up front to do just that.

Waterford v Dublin

2pm Sunday

Dublin head to Fraher Field to take on Waterford under Davy Fitzgerald. Micheál Donoghue is the new man at the helm of Dublin hurling and he completed a league and All-Ireland double with Galway in 2017.

Waterford are likely to be difficult to beat, especially given they have the benefit of playing this game in Dungarvan. The jury is still out on Dublin given they failed to land a blow in last year's Leinster championship and it remains to be seen how Donoghue makes his mark on the squad.

They should find it a tough task to topple Waterford and the -4 handicap looks worth a play.
