Cork v Clare

GAA Go, 5pm Saturday

A four-point handicap start looks extremely generous for Clare considering they are taking on a Cork side who will surely be ring-rusty, having seemingly played just a few challenge games after missing the Munster Hurling Cup for a team holiday to Tenerife last month.

The Banner won't have all their top talents such as Tony Kelly on display, but they surely will be keen to get off to a decent start after a shock defeat to Antrim in the opening round of this competition last year.

Clare showed real potential in 2021 and Brian Lohan's men may well be sharper than their rivals.

Laois v Tipperary

6pm Saturday

Tipperary are likely to leave behind their surprise defeat to Kerry in the Munster Hurling Cup last month when heading to O'Moore Park to face Laois this Saturday, but covering a ten-point handicap could prove beyond their reach at this early stage of the campaign.

Expect the Premier County to have a somewhat experimental look as they find their feet under new boss Colm Bonnar, while Laois will not want to suffer the same disappointing Allianz League campaign as last term.

Laois manager Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett is expected to have a decent pick at his disposal and could view this as a chance to rattle the hot favourites on home soil. Laois can keep this close.

Wexford v Limerick

TG4, 1.45pm Sunday

Limerick are clearly the better outfit but Wexford often show up well in this competition, for all that they are a difficult side to weigh up as they move on to life without Davy Fitzgerald.

That makes a handicap bet risky and the safest option could be siding with under 1.5 Limerick goals at evens. They scored only four goals in five games during last year's Allianz League.

Galway v Offaly

2pm Sunday

Considering the calibre of their rivals, Offaly are likely to struggle to get a win on the board in Division 1A but they head to Pearse Stadium for a clash with Galway under very little pressure in comparison to their rivals.

Six points separated the sides when the Tribesmen got the upper hand in a Walsh Cup encounter last month, but Galway were since rattled by Dublin in a 19-point defeat - they need to bounce back under new manager Henry Shefflin.

The Faithful County were far from disgraced when giving the Dubs a decent test last month, coming up short by six points, having led at half time and missed an early penalty.

Offaly are not at Galway's level but have been making progress under Michael Fennelly and could be a underestimated by the nine-point handicap.
