Laois v Dublin
Portlaoise, 4.15pm Sunday

A shock final-round win over Galway saw Dublin seal their place in the All-Ireland series and Mattie Kenny is sure to have his side primed for this contest as they prepare for a mouthwatering clash with Tipperary at Croke Park next Sunday.

Dublin have shown plenty signs of form this season with Eoghan O’Donnell one of their top performers, and the win over Galway was a long time in the making.

The Dubs only just overcame Laois by two points when the sides met in the league in March but that was in poor conditions and the gap between the teams is perhaps underestimated as a result.

With Laois winning the Joe McDonagh last Sunday, their minds are unlikely to be fully focused and that should allow a strong Dublin side to put up a good score. Tipperary are likely reeling from their Munster final hammering by Limerick last weekend and it may be worth getting on Dublin a week in advance, with a straightforward success likely in this contest.

Westmeath v Cork
Cusack Park, 3pm Sunday

Joe McDonagh finalists Westmeath tackle Cork in Mullingar on Sunday afternoon and face a tall order as 18-1 outsiders against the 2018 All Ireland semi-finalists.

Although Cork were unable to retain their Munster crown this season, they head into the backdoor route knowing that Limerick used this pathway last year on their way to glory.

The past few weeks should have given them a nice opportunity to regroup for the All-Ireland series.

It’s difficult to see anything but a straightforward Cork success but it may be worth taking a chance on the outsiders to stay within 16 points.

Westmeath are still a fair way off the level required to get close to Cork but the favourites will be using this to prepare for Kilkenny next week and may not be as ruthless as expected.
