Cavan too big to ignore in semi-final replay

Kerry v Tipperary
RTE1 & Premier Sports, 2pm

Cavan were extremely fortunate to get a second bite of the cherry against Tyrone, a David Givney goal in the dying seconds earning them a share of the spoils a fortnight ago, but there is no way the betting should be so lopsided for today’s Ulster replay in Clones.

This will be the fourth time that the sides have met in 2016. Tyrone won 0-10 to 0-08 when they met in the opening round of Division 2. It was 1-17 to 0-15 in favour of Mickey Harte’s men in the league final but they were unable to complete the hat-trick thanks to Givney’s late goal.

The fact that Cavan were able to score 3-7, the highest total they have got against Tyrone this year, is testament to how much they have improved as the year has worn on. To snatch a draw in such dramatic circumstances should instill a fresh belief in the Breffni boys and there is no way they deserve to be 7-2.
