Division 1 of the Allianz Hurling League begins with a bang on Saturday night at Semple Stadium as All-Ireland champions Tipperary face off against reigning league winners Limerick in a repeat of last year's Munster final.

John Kiely's men were awesome in that 12-point hammering of the subsequent championship winners and proved too good for the Premier County when the sides met in round two of last year's league, seeing it out strongest on a frosty night to win by seven.

Limerick will be keen to get back to winning ways after their semi-final exit from last year's All-Ireland series and some off-field issues in recent months, while Tipperary could be a little ring-rusty - they lost three of their first four games in last year's league, exiting the competition at home to Dublin at the first knockout stage.

Recent Munster Senior League winners Limerick look value to be leading at half-time and full-time considering the bright starts they made in their recent games.

They scored 1-10 and 1-14 by half-time when leading against Cork and Tipperary, and put up eight unanswered first-half points against Clare earlier this month. Tipperary lost both their games in that pre-season competition.

The handicap is set at just a single point but Limerick should cover that and more.
