Sunday analysis

Meath v Donegal
Pairc Tailteann, 2pm Sunday

Meath are long odds-on to be relegated back to Division 2, but the visit of Donegal to Pairc Tailteann would have been one of the games Andy McEntee had pencilled in as a must-win encounter.

Home form will make or break Meath's league campaign and they have been a formidable side on home soil during the McEntee era.

They took Tyrone to extra-time there in the 2018 qualifiers and should have beaten Donegal at a similar stage the previous year where they lost by a single point.

Meath won all four of their home ties in Division 2 last year. They had four points to spare over Tipperary, six over Armagh, one over Kildare and seven over Fermanagh. Pairc Tailteann has become something of a fortress for the Royals in recent years and Donegal could be in for a shock.

Declan Bonner has to cope without a whole host of regular starters and will again be relying on Michael Murphy to pull the strings.
Meath are odds-on for the drop, but they have blooded some exciting new talent under McEntee and reached the Super 8s last year.

If James McEntee, Donal Keoghan and Bryan McMahon can get running at the Donegal defence there might well be an upset.

Prices about a Meath win by two points or more look on the generous side.

Monaghan v Tyrone
Clones, 2pm Sunday

The second coming of Seamus McEnaney almost started with a shock win away in Galway last Sunday, but two defeats on the trot look on the cards as Tyrone are fancied to come away from Clones with maximum points.

Despite being without star forwards Mattie Donnelly and Cathal McShane, Tyrone managed their opening game with Meath quite impressively and never looked in danger at any stage. They made the early running and were always a few points clear.

It was the first time since returning to Division 1 that they managed to win their opening game. What we have learned over the last couple of years is that the longer the league goes on the better Tyrone will be, so there should be an improved performance in the offing.

Darren McCurry looked sharp against Meath, scoring 1-6, while Mark Bradley and Niall Sludden also have the potential to pose problems for a fragile Monaghan defence.

The layers appear to have read too much into Tyrone's injury worries and the odds-against available about an away win is worth snapping up.

Leitrim v Cork
Carrick-On-Shannon, 2pm Sunday

Cork face a 380-mile round trip to Carrick-On-Shannon for round two of their Division 3 campaign, but it ought to be a straightfoward assignment for Ronan McCarthy's charges. The six-point handicap should be covered with ease.

Despite a sluggish start, Cork were comfortable 0-20 to 0-13 winners over Offaly in round one and they are a better side than Leitrim.

Indeed, backing the Rebels to take care of the handicap for the rest of the league could be the secret to some healthy profit. They looked a cut above the rest of the teams in the third tier.
