Weekend preview
Fermanagh v Tyrone
6.30pm Saturday - Sky Sports Arena
The champs are back. Tyrone start their Ulster championship campaign with a trip to Brewster Park to take on Fermanagh but seeing seven players walk away from the squad in recent weeks is hardly ideal preparation.
When the draws were made for the Ulster championship and, given Fermanagh had home advantage, the handicap looked set to be around six points. It is surprising to see it as big as nine with BoyleSports and it is worth staying on the hosts' side of that.
There are doubts over Peter Harte's participation and this might be one of those games in which Tyrone just have to get over the line. It doesn't matter how they get to the destination once they get there.
After a tame opening-round defeat to Antrim, where they scored only eight points, Fermanagh's Division 3 league campaign improved with each game and their 3-15 to 3-9 win over Laois in round three was impressive, as was their seven-point win away to Longford, where they scored 3-11.
Fermanagh, unlike in recent years, have been getting goals this year and plenty of them. They scored three against Laois and Longford and two against Wicklow, and with that in mind it is worth backing three or more match goals at 6-4.
Tyrone were more workmanlike than wonderful in their Ulster opener last year against Cavan so expect a similar sort of performance this time.
