Individual brilliance gives Belgium a chance

If talent alone is enough to guide you when looking for a World Cup winner then Belgium must be on the shortlist.

The Red Devils blitzed an admittedly soft qualifying group, scoring 43 goals in ten matches with Romelu Lukaku helping himself to 11 of those in a team built to attack under gung-ho boss Roberto Martinez.

If Martinez wishes to do so he could field Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens either side of Lukaku and the back three would read Toby Alderweireld, Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen. Few goalkeepers can match the standard of Thibaut Courtois either.

Thomas Meunier and Yannick Carrasco are wing-backs with Kevin De Bruyne alongside Radja Nainggolan in midfield. What's not to like about that?

There are tactical misgivings regarding Martinez but individually Belgium are good enough to win this World Cup.
