Iceland's fairy tale starts a new chapter
ManagerHeimir Hallgrimsson
It's the fairy tale that refuses to end. Many felt qualifying for Euro 2016 would be as good as it could get for Iceland, who then beat England on their way to the quarter-finals.
A flash in the pan? Apparently not. Despite being drawn in a difficult group with Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine, Iceland finished on top as the tiny Nordic nation reached their first World Cup.
Iceland's basic, direct football is not pretty but it's pretty effective and they are almost like a club side in the way everyone knows their job inside out. That helped them to overcome a more talented Turkey team 3-0 and 2-0 as well as collect four points against Ukraine and beat Croatia at home.
Set-piece specialist Gylfi Sigurdsson is the unquestionable star of a side that nobody will relish meeting.
