Match preview

Serbia failed to test goalkeeper Alisson in defeat to Brazil in their World Cup opener but should have more opportunities against Cameroon, who are also pointless after losing to Switzerland in Group G.

The Serbians faced a baptism of fire in their first match, taking on a Selecao side many fancy to go the distance in Qatar, but they managed to keep Brazil out until the 62nd minute and the second goal they shipped was as a result of a moment of magic from Richarlison.

Following the defeat, Serbia head coach Dragan Stojkovic bemoaned his side's lack of fitness in the final third with main striker Aleksandar Mitrovic having only recently returned from a knock, while both Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic started the Brazil game on the bench.

Kostic once again looks likely to miss out but Stojkovic could start with a front two of Mitrovic and Vlahovic this time around and that spells trouble for Cameroon.

Mitrovic has been superb in the Premier League for club side Fulham this season and he could cause problems for the Indomitable Lions, who have failed to win any of their last five matches.

Cameroon had opportunities in their opener against Switzerland with Bryan Mbeumo looking lively on the flank in particular but they lacked a cutting edge up top and that could again cost them against Serbia.

For many Serbia came into this tournament as dark horses.

The attacking combination of Mitrovic and Vlahovic could be fruitful, while Dusan Tadic is still a capable creative threat despite being the wrong side of 30, having topped the Eredivisie assist standings with 19 last season.

In qualifying for the World Cup, they pipped Portugal and Ireland to top spot in their group with six wins and two draws from their eight matches.

And in their more recent Nations League campaign, they also managed to finish top of Group B4 ahead of Norway, Slovenia and Sweden.

Cameroon's World Cup record is underwhelming with the loss to Switzerland their eighth straight defeat in the tournament since 2002 and, although the current crop of players show more promise than previous generations, Serbia should have the edge over them in both boxes in Al Wakrah.
