Late goals from Steven Bergwijn and Memphis Depay gave the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Norway on Tuesday night to seal top spot in Group G and automatic qualification for 2022 World Cup finals.

The Dutch, who lost to the Czech Republic at the last-16 stage of Euro 2020, are 16-1 to be crowned world champions for the first time in Qatar next year.

Norway, who were missing star striker Erling Braut Haaland, were pipped to a playoff place by Turkey, who are 200-1 to win the World Cup, and 250-1 shots Wales will also be involved in March's playoff tournament.

Wales's chances of reaching the finals were boosted by a 1-1 draw with Belgium, the number-one team in Fifa's world rankings, which secured them a home tie in the playoff semi-finals.

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 12th minute for Belgium but Wales striker Kieffer Moore equalised before half-time in Cardiff.

The draw for the European World Cup playoffs takes place on November 26 with Euro 2020 winners Italy and Scotland among the other teams in the hat.

In South American qualifying, Argentina confirmed their place at next year's finals with a goalless draw at home to Brazil, stretching their unbeaten run to 27 games.

They are 11-1 to lift the trophy while Brazil are 6-1 joint-favourites alongside holders France and Euro 2020 runners-up England are 15-2.
