France v Brazil

BBC4 & red button, 8pm Sunday

France have shown no sign of buckling under the pressure of being World Cup hosts and favourites, winning all three of their group matches, against South Korea, Norway and Nigeria.

There have been impressive performances all through the team from Wendie Renard at the back to Eugenie Le Sommer up top and anchor Amandine Henry, who could run the show against Brazil's ageing midfield.

The South Americans were arguably fortunate to land a place in the knockout stages. They did so only by virtue of a 3-0 thumping of an inexperienced Jamaica unit and a 1-0 defeat of an Italy side who had likely already taken their foot off the pedal by the time of the final group match.

Recommendation
France to win & under 4.5 goals
1pt 4-6 Coral, Ladbrokes

Key stat
France have won their last eight matches.

England v Cameroon

BBC1, 4.30pm Sunday

Phil Neville's Lionesses became the first England team in history to win all three of their group matches at a World Cup and their reward is a last-16 encounter with minnows Cameroon.

Slender victories over Scotland and Argentina booked England's place in the knockout phase but it was a spirited 2-0 win against 2015 runners-up Japan which sparked genuine optimism.

The likely return of Nikita Parris to the starting line-up alongside in-form Ellen White, who has notched three World Cup goals, and the ever-impressive Fran Kirby makes England's attack one of the most fearsome in the tournament.

They scored seven goals across three matches against Brazil, USA and Japan in the SheBelieves Cup earlier this year and their forwards should get the job done against a weaker side in Valenciennes.

Cameroon qualified as one of the best third-placed sides by virtue of a classy 95th-minute goal from Ajara Nchout against New Zealand in their final group assignment.

But they are 43 places below England in the Fifa world rankings, below teams such as Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Myanmar, who are not even in the tournament.

Progressing beyond the group phase is an excellent achievement for the Indomitable Lionesses but their journey could come to a grinding halt against an England team now brimming with confidence.

Recommendation
England to win both halves
1pt 23-20 Hills

Key stat
England have scored two or more goals in four of their last six games.
