What has gone wrong for Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United?

Johan Cruyff has been credited with the "you have got to shoot or you can't score" quote and whether or not it was the legendary Dutchman who started the football saying somebody should be telling Romelu Lukaku he needs to seriously up his output.

Lukaku, whose last United goal was away to Watford on September 15, has found himself out of the starting 11 in recent weeks despite previously being seen as a trusted lieutenant under Jose Mourinho.

All goalscorers go through rough patches but Lukaku's 12-game barren spell has seen him force just 18 shots with only four of them on target. He has managed one shot on target in his last seven appearances.

Much is made of United's dull style of play and the lack of opportunities afforded to the strikers, although could it be a lack of confidence rather than fewer chances created which is handicapping Lukaku? Is he hiding, not wanting to miss?

Renowned forwards Sergio Aguero (4.2) and Mohamed Salah (3.8) top the shots-per-game charts in this season's Premier League and Harry Kane is at 3.5, whereas Lukaku last had more than one shot in a match on October 2.
