Football is fickle business.

In June Mauricio Pochettino led Tottenham to their first Champions League final, having secured a fourth successive season in the competition with a top-four finish in the Premier League.

But on Tuesday night, disappointment over their up-and-down start to the 2019-20 campaign reached a potential flashpoint with a 7-2 home demolition by Bayern Munich.

Some fans are calling for his head and bookmakers rate the Argentinian 6-4 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.

But here are three reasons why Tottenham should not dismiss their top boss.

1 Stability is needed after stadium move

In order to fund their new 62,000-capacity stadium, Tottenham need to be playing Champions League football. A huge personality like Pochettino making way for a new manager with a different ideology could hinder the club's chances of making the top four.

2 He is yet to bed in some new players

Pochettino worked wonders to get results despite managing a squad that was unchanged through two transfer windows. Now, though, they have new faces to bed in.

Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon are expected to reach full fitness after the next international break and can freshen up a team who are maybe being worked out by stronger opponents. If he is dismissed now the club they won't see what he could get out of the new duo.

3 The dismissal could spark a player exodus

It is no secret that some Tottenham players have their eye on a move. There is even speculation Pochettino himself falls in that category.

But to axe the Argentinian could trigger a domino effect that sees players such as Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld trying to force through transfers in January.

There is also the potential his dismissal could agitate settled star players. Harry Kane and Heung Min-Son owe much to Pochettino's superb man-management abilities and may have doubts over where they see the rest of their careers should he depart.
