Where to watch

Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League, 4.30pm Sunday

Match odds

19-10 Tottenham, 29-20 Manchester United, 5-2 draw

Form

Last weekend was a missed opportunity for Tottenham, who had the chance to capitalise on Chelsea's 5-2 loss to West Brom and fell short with a disappointing 2-2 draw at Newcastle.

Over the last six games Spurs have collected 13 points – the third highest in the Premier League – but they looked anything but a confident side for large periods of the game at St James's Park.

Manchester United's recent form is even better and they head to north London unbeaten in their last ten league fixtures.

They possess the only unbeaten away record in the top flight although their last domestic road trip – a 3-1 loss at Leicester in the FA Cup – was a chastening experience.

Team news

Tottenham
Matt Doherty and Ben Davies missed the 2-2 draw at Newcastle through injury.

Manchester United
Anthony Martial, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are ruled out.

The tactical battle

United's excellence on the road has been assisted by their strong defensive capability – only Manchester City have conceded fewer goals on their league travels – and the ability to counter-attack with devastating pace and precision.

However, Martial's absence removes some of their offensive capability and changes could be made as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares his team for a second away game in four days.

Retaining a settled defence could be a priority and the Red Devils will be keen to erase the memory of last October's 6-1 loss at home to Spurs.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min were outstanding that day, with each contributing two goals and an assist, and they are expected to start together in attack for the first time since last month's 2-1 loss at Arsenal.

Verdict

It is getting to the stage of the season when certain fixtures will mean more to some clubs than others and Tottenham's need looks greater than United's this weekend.

Despite their poor performance on Tyneside, Spurs are only three points outside the top four and should be a lot stronger with Kane and Son together in attack.

Jose Mourinho's side have netted at least twice in each of their last five home games and have had the benefit of a free week to prepare for a match which will be seen as a must-win in terms of the push for Champions League qualification.

Spurs' shaky defence offers encouragement to United, who have been outstanding on their Premier League travels.

But United are looking comfortable in the race for the top four and might not be ready to reach peak performance at the end of a busy week.
