FA Cup fourth round: Manchester United v Liverpool
Where to watch
BBC1, 5pm Sunday
Match odds
8-5 Manchester United, 13-8 Liverpool, 27-10 draw
Form
Last weekend's Premier League clash between these sides failed to live up to expectations as they played out an underwhelming goalless draw at Anfield.
Manchester United will have been the happier team with that result and they continued their superb away form on Wednesday as Paul Pogba's stunner earned them a 2-1 win at Fulham.
That made it eight wins and two draws in ten away matches for the Red Devils, taking them back to the top of the table, although their home form is less impressive.
Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Arsenal, PSG and Manchester City have all won at Old Trafford this season while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have also had goalless league draws with Chelsea and the Citizens on their own patch.
Liverpool hosted Burnley on Thursday but their away form has been poor in recent weeks, with draws at Fulham and Newcastle and a 1-0 defeat at Southampton. However, they did thump Crystal Palace 7-0 in the midst of that run and last season's runaway champions remain a top-class side.
Team news
Liverpool
Joel Matip returned to the squad for Thursday's Premier League game against Burnley but the Reds are still missing the injured Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Diogo Jota and Naby Keita.
Man Utd
Phil Jones and Brandon Williams are the only absentees for United. Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford are pushing for starts after late substitute appearances at Fulham.
The tactical battle
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho started at centre-back for Liverpool against United last weekend but Jurgen Klopp could opt for fit-again Joel Matip or some of the club's young defenders at Old Trafford.
With Diogo Jota still sidelined, Klopp's attacking options are limited and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane started the third-round win over Aston Villa's Under-23 team.
Both teams have scored in nine of United's 12 league victories but Solskjaer tends to take a more cautious approach against the big clubs, with midfield duo Scott McTominay and Fred shielding the back four in the goalless draws with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
That tactic can lessen the influence of star man Bruno Fernandes, who had a quiet game at Anfield, so it will be interesting to see whether United take a more expansive approach in Sunday's cup tie.
Verdict
The FA Cup has never been a priority for Klopp and his approach is unlikely to change given Liverpool's injury problems amid an intense Premier League title race.
United have plenty of attacking depth to their squad and that could give them an edge in another low-scoring encounter.
Manchester United 1 Liverpool 0
