FA Cup: Chelsea v Manchester City

Where to watch

BBC One, 5.30pm Saturday

Match odds

19-5 Chelsea, 20-23 Manchester City, 13-5 draw

Form

Manchester City sealed their place in the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 win away to Borussia Dortmund, making it 28 victories in their last 30 games in all competitions.

However, Pep Guardiola's men suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to ten-man Leeds in the Premier League last weekend despite having 29 shots on goal to their visitors' two.

Chelsea also reached the last four of the Champions League this week – "a great achievement" according to Thomas Tuchel – although they lost Tuesday's second leg 1-0 to Porto.

That was only their second defeat in 18 games under Tuchel, following a remarkable 5-2 drubbing by struggling West Brom, and they will hope to rediscover the defensive form that saw them concede just twice in the German's first 14 matches in charge.

Team news

Chelsea
Mateo Kovacic, who has impressed since Tuchel's arrival, is set to miss out with a hamstring problem.

Manchester City
Sergio Aguero missed the trip to Dortmund with a niggle and is a doubt for the cup semi-final.

The tactical battle

City were 3-0 up inside 35 minutes at Stamford Bridge in January, when Frank Lampard tried to go toe-to-toe with the visitors in a 4-3-3 formation.

A more cautious approach can be expected from Tuchel's Chelsea, who have kept clean sheets with three at the back against Liverpool, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid (twice).

Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud are jostling for a start up front for the Blues while Aguero's fitness problems leave Gabriel Jesus as the main man for City.

Verdict

Manchester City's last three FA Cup semi-finals have all rewarded backers of under 2.5 goals in 90 minutes and it is hard to see them hammering a competitive Chelsea side.

The Citizens' dazzling array of attacking talents gives them the edge, however, and they can keep their quadruple dreams alive with a narrow victory.
