I always used to enjoy voting for my PFA Team of the Year and here is my side for this season.

Goalkeeper - Edouard Mendy: A goalkeeper is such a vital position in any team and Chelsea's upgrade from Kepa to Mendy has made such a positive impact on the side. He was relatively cheap given what you expect to pay for a top goalkeeper these days and I like Mendy's calmness. He has steadied the ship, making very few mistakes, and his positioning means everything feels much safer than when Kepa was the first-choice keeper at Stamford Bridge.

It's also worth giving a positive mention to Aston Villa's Emi Martinez after a fine season for Dean Smith's side.

Right-back - Reece James: Trent Alexander-Arnold has found his form recently and should definitely be in Gareth Southgate's squad but in my opinion Reece James is the best starting option following a standout season for Chelsea.

James isn't a flashy player, but he does everything well and ever since I saw him running the show for Wigan in midfield it was clear he was going right to the top.

Centre-back - Thiago Silva: Another Chelsea player! However, few would be able to deny Thiago Silva has had a major positive impact on the Blues rearguard. He got plenty of flak after making an early mistake at West Brom and he isn't the quickest but Silva's reading of the game is absolutely superb.

Centre-back - Ruben Dias: He is my player of the season and has helped the champions to become a more solid defensive unit, while also becoming the leader of the team.

Left-back - Luke Shaw: I love to see a player show spirit to recover from a knockback or two and Shaw has had to take injuries on the chin as well as what happened with Jose Mourinho to come back from adversity to have such a fine season.

Mourinho treated him poorly - I have been in situations where the manager can never be pleased no matter what you do . It's good to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer give Shaw a platform to show his best, but he still had to take the opportunity.

Defensive midfield - Ilkay Gundogan: I'm going to be a bit gung-ho with my team so Declan Rice will have to sit it out on the bench because I think Ilkay Gundogan needs to be in and he can perform the anchor role if required.

When City were struggling - I know it's hard to remember but that was the case - it was Gundogan more than anyone else apart from Dias who dragged the champions into form. He played a crucial role in City getting on the winning run which eventually turned a congested title race into a procession.

Central midfield - Mason Mount: Never mind being Frank Lampard and Gareth Southgate's teacher's pet, Mount is my teacher's pet! I love the way he plays with and without the ball and it won't have been easy for him to almost start again when Lampard left, needing to win over Thomas Tuchel.

The abuse Mount used to get on social media will have hurt but it shows how mentally tough he is. Mount is also technically brilliant with a fantastic football brain.

Central midfield - Bruno Fernandes: A return of 18 goals and 12 assists is something special from Fernandes, but more than that he looks like a leader. Not in the style of Roy Keane, who would get in people's face, but in the standards he demands and sets himself.

Right wing - Mohamed Salah: We possibly take Salah for granted. He has scored another 22 Premier League goals this season and Liverpool would not be on the verge of Champions League qualification without his contribution.

Striker - Harry Kane: Joint-top of the scoring charts and on his own for assists would be a brilliant achievement if Kane was playing for City. Doing it for this broken Tottenham team is something quite exceptional and if I was running Manchester United I would be chucking Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and money at Spurs to try to tempt him to Old Trafford in the summer.

Left wing - Jack Grealish: Grealish is still towards the top of many attacking stats despite his shin injury and that's because he is so good he could play for any team. Like Gazza he just loves football and it often seems as if he is just having a kickabout with his mates.

Professional football can knock the love of the game you had as a kid right out of you. The pressure and demands from the manager, the fans, the press it can leave you in a darkish place just wanting the season to end, but Grealish doesn't get weighed down by that.

He has fun on the pitch and it shows.
