Morecambe v Solihull Moors

12.30pm Saturday

Morecambe have beaten Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Cup and Manchester United Under-21s in the EFL Trophy this month and they can complete an eclectic hat-trick of November cup victories when they host Solihull Moors.

The Shrimps made a smart start to their League Two campaign, winning four of their first five matches before a sticky patch in October which saw them pick up just one point from four games.

However, their last five league matches have yielded a 1-0 win at Tranmere, draws with Exeter, Stevenage and Scunthorpe and a narrow 2-1 defeat at Salford City, one of the promotion favourites in the fourth division, on Tuesday night.

Morecambe had 14 shots to Salford's eight and it took a couple of stunning strikes from Ash Hunter to see off the Shrimps.

That level of performance should enable them to progress to the third round of the FA Cup at home to a Solihull Moors side who have taken just four points from four away games in the National League this season.

Solihull upset Scunthorpe 3-2 in the second round, helped by two penalties, but they have not played for more than two weeks and that may give battle-hardened Morecambe the edge.

Huddersfield Town v Middlesbrough

3pm Saturday

After Middlesbrough's 1-0 defeat at Watford in their opening game of the Championship season, Neil Warnock described the Hornets' winner as a "Sunday league goal".

The veteran gaffer may have used slightly stronger language in the privacy of the dressing-room but he has had few complaints about his side's defending since then.

Boro brushed aside troubled Derby 3-0 on Wednesday, keeping a seventh clean sheet in their last nine matches in the process. Even classy title contenders Norwich needed a 72nd-minute penalty to earn a 1-0 win at the Riverside last weekend.

Middlesbrough have not lost away from home since the Watford defeat in September and their defence has little to fear from a Huddersfield side who have lost four of their last seven and were held to a goalless draw at struggling Wycombe on Tuesday.

The Terriers, beaten 4-3 at Stoke last weekend, dominated possession at Wycombe but created very little and Middlesbrough look a tempting price to grind out a victory.

Bradford City v Oldham Athletic

3pm Saturday

Bradford took out their League Two frustrations on non-league Tonbridge Angels in the first round of the FA Cup, thrashing the Kent side 7-0, but they may struggle to follow up that success against Oldham.

The Latics are four points better off than Bradford in League Two and their goal tally of 21 is the best of any club outside the top eight.

Admittedly they also have the worst defensive record in the fourth tier but results have improved dramatically since they conceded 13 goals in their first five games under Harry Kewell.

Victories at Exeter and Barrow in the last week made it six wins in seven away games for Oldham, including a 3-1 success at Bradford in the EFL Trophy.

Kewell's side also beat highflying Cheltenham at home this month and with striker Danny Rowe in sparkling form they look a big price against a Bantams side who have suffered five defeats to nil in their last seven league outings.

Union Berlin v Eintracht Frankfurt

2.30pm Saturday

Union Berlin have taken advantage of a soft set of early fixtures in the Bundesliga but they face a tricky home game against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

September's 1-1 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach was Union's only clash with a top-half team and their four wins have come against struggling Hoffenheim and lowly Mainz, Arminia Bielefeld and Cologne.

Eintracht represent a stiffer test despite a modest points tally of 11 from eight Bundesliga matches. Their only defeat was all-but-inevitable drubbing away to Bayern Munich and they held RB Leipzig to a 1-1 draw last weekend.

That was a fifth score draw in eight games for the Frankfurt outfit but Andre Silva and Bas Dost give them a real goalscoring threat and they look a solid draw-no-bet play in Berlin.

Weekend accumulators

Banker
Norwich
Coventry have lost five of their six away games in the Championship and are unlikely to stop the rot against a Norwich side who unpicked Middlesbrough's mean defence last weekend before a midweek win at in-form Stoke.

Blowout
Arsenal
Arsenal's only goal in their last five league games was a penalty and the Gunners could be frustrated by Wolves. Nuno's men are not firing on all cylinders but they have conceded just three times in their last six.

Thought for the week

Atalanta inflicted a first home defeat in normal time on Liverpool for more than two years but their win at Anfield was not the only fortress-storming performance of the week.

Ipswich had won all six of their League One matches before Tuesday's fixture against Hull, keeping clean sheets in five of those games.

However, the Tractor Boys were stopped in their tracks by the third-tier leaders, who took the lead in the second minute to set up a hugely impressive 3-0 victory.

That made it ten wins out of 13 for the Tigers an outstanding start by any standards but even more spectacular considering the manner of their relegation from the Championship.

Hull sold star wingers Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki in January and lost 16 of their last 20 matches, including an astonishing 8-0 defeat at Wigan where they conceded seven first-half goals.

They finished bottom of the league, having been eighth after a New Year's Day win at Sheffield Wednesday, and manager Grant McCann deserves enormous credit for turning around their fortunes so swiftly.

Eight of Hull's ten league wins this season have been to nil but they are also averaging 2.25 goals per game away from home. Those strong displays at both ends of the pitch suggest the Tigers could be roaring back to the Championship next term.
