Tottenham v Aston Villa

Harry Kane

Punters should often not ignore the obvious when betting and market leader Harry Kane may be the best option to net first in Tottenham's Premier League opener.

He opened the scoring seven times in the top flight last campaign, contributing to a final league tally of 17, and should be more enticing an option than usual with the likes of Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli out of the Tottenham team.

Leicester City v Wolves

Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans has three goals in his Leicester career so far and all of his strikes opened the scoring in matches with Fulham, Huddersfield and Arsenal last season.

He also laid on four assists in his 13 league appearances for the Foxes, averaging 2.4 shots per match.

Wolves face a trip to Armenia to face Pyunik in the Europa League before this encounter and lively Leicester could capitalise if any fatigue sets in.

Newcastle United v Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The implementation of VAR in the Premier League this season has led many to believe penalties could play a key role in the race for the Golden Boot.

Anyone supporting that argument should look at Arsenal penalty-taker Aubameyang to open the scoring away to Newcastle. New addition Nicolas Pepe could unsettle a feeble Magpies rearguard should he feature and could help the Gunners to win a spot-kick in the game's early stages.

The Gabonese striker finished joint-top scorer in the Premier League last season with 22 goals, seven of which opened the scoring.

Manchester United v Chelsea

No goalscorer

Both Manchester United and Chelsea are in states of transition, with the Red Devils needing to bed in a number of new signings and Frank Lampard taking charge of a young squad weakened by the departure of Eden Hazard.

The two league meetings between these sides ended as stalemates in 2018-19 and their seasonal curtain-raiser could be a tentative affair.

Punters determined to back someone to open the scoring, however, may want to consider Pedro, who broke the deadlock six times in the league last term.
