Scottish League One 2019-20: season predictions and best bet

Falkirk can make immediate return with title triumph

Falkirk somehow conspired to get themselves relegated from the Championship in 2018-19 but the Bairns can bounce back at the first time of asking.

Manager Ray McKinnon has not only kept his job but he's been entrusted with a reviving the club's fortunes with 13 new players arriving.

And it's the quality of their signings that has persuaded bookies to rightly make them odds-on to win the title.

Falkirk have packed themselves with players with Ladbrokes Premiership experience. Conor Sammon, Cammy Bell and Morgaro Gomis have all played in the top flight and loanee Declan McManus should score plenty of goals.

The Bairns appear odds-on bankers and can win the league with something to spare and that’s the least a club whose fans follow them in large numbers should be aspiring to.

Raith Rovers are seen as their biggest challengers by the layers but there's little in the way of evidence to support that. The loss of striker Kevin Nisbet, who netted 29 league goals last season, to rivals Dunfermline should be a huge blow for them.

Ambitious Airdrie could end up being the best of the rest having chosen to go full-time this season. A playoff place should be within their reach.

Promoted Peterhead could spring a few surprises this season. Rory McAllister is 32 now but he will certainly add to the 155 league goals he's netted in his Blue Toon career and Jim McInally's side had a settled summer.

Clyde will be okay as long as they keep David Goodwillie.

Forfar are very strong at their Station Park home and should finish in mid-table which leaves Dumbarton, Stranraer, East Fife and Montrose battling to avoid the drop. The Sons look particularly vulnerable after 17 players left over the summer.

Recommendation
Falkirk
