Match preview

Rotherham's hopes of staving off relegation from the Championship are being hampered by a brutal schedule but the Millers have not given up on getting out of the bottom three and can take a massive step forward by defeating mid-table Middlesbrough at the New York Stadium.

Paul Warne's battlers are preparing for their fifth match in 12 days and showed understandable signs of fatigue last week, suffering successive 1-0 home defeats against Coventry and Birmingham.

However, they have had some time to refresh since their Sunday lunchtime kick-off against Birmingham, and are likely to play with renewed vigour against injury-hit Boro, who seem to be waiting for the season to end.

Boro's faint hopes of reaching the playoffs were extinguished when they lost 2-1 at home to QPR on Saturday and their manager, Neil Warnock, is already looking ahead to next season.

The wily gaffer may feel it is the right time to experiment with team selection and Rotherham could be the immediate beneficiaries.

Key stat

Middlesbrough have lost four of their last five matches.
