Match preview

Arsenal raised their game for the visit of Tottenham a few weeks ago when they stormed to a 3-0 lead in the north London derby and manager Nuno can expect a similarly hostile atmosphere at West Ham on Sunday.

A visit from Spurs is always a highlight of the Hammers' season and their performances over the last year and a bit will have heightened the expectation, particularly as there were fans in the ground when their team claimed a 2-1 win last season.

And they are probably still coming down from their last visit to N17 when they claimed a draw despite being three goals behind with eight minutes to go.

So Tottenham have something to prove, particularly as they have won just one of their last ten league matches against a London rival and plumbed similar depths to their Emirates performances when they lost 3-0 at Crystal Palace last month.

However, they did rise to the occasion when quietening the takeover celebrators at Newcastle last week, when star striker Harry Kane got off the mark for the league campaign, and while West Ham's Europa League campaign is going swimmingly, they need to pick themselves up in the league on their own patch.

David Moyes's side were held by Crystal Palace at the London Stadium, before they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United when Mark Noble missed an injury-time penalty, and they were also stung by a late winner from top-flight new boys Brentford.

The Hammers showed their battling qualities in a 1-0 win at Everton, where England midfielder Declan Rice was in inspired form.

It looks set to be an intriguing midfield battle, and Nuno's decision not to take any of his St James' Park starters to the Netherland illustrates the level of importance he is placing on this match.

A case for either side could be made but these look to be two closely matched teams and the draw could provide the best value.

An each-way bet on Tanguy Ndombele to score first is also encouraged.

The penny seems to have dropped for the Frenchman, who has been growing into the season just when it looked as if he was going to be offloaded.

He has had seven efforts at goal this season and the emergence of holding midfielder Oliver Skipp has given him more licence to get forward.

His battle against Rice is one to hotly anticipate and the former Lyon man is a big price to find the net.
