Match preview

No team have scored fewer goals in England's top four divisions than Burnley – but few sides are quite as tough to break down.

As desperately light as they are in front of goal, they are all about resilience and they should make life tough for West Ham at the London Stadium.

Sean Dyche's men have lost only three of their last 11 – two of which were against the Manchester clubs – and they can avoid defeat at a stadium where they won 1-0 in July.

Burnley are improving after a rocky start but look chronically short of firepower – only West Brom have unloaded fewer shots – and a successful scrap against relegation is probably the height of their ambition.

Dyche is implacably resisting calls to play Matej Vydra instead of the out-of-form Chris Wood or the equally out-of-form Ashley Barnes, although a fit-again Jay Rodriguez, who scored the winner on this ground last season, may get the nod.

West Ham, meanwhile, also look to have found a level and their games are becoming supremely tight, which adds weight to the argument that the draw looks a good runner here. Thirteen of their last 14 matches have either been stalemates or settled by the odd goal. The exception was a 3-0 hiding at Chelsea.

Eight of West Ham's 24 goals have come from set-plays – Thomas Soucek and Angelo Ogbonna are clear and material threats. However, just three of the goals Burnley have conceded (14 per cent) have been from set-pieces. They don't mind an aerial battle - in fact they don't mind a battleat all, and are worth backing not to lose this one.

Key stat

Ten of Burnley's 16 league matches have produced no more than one goal.
