Match preview
The teams with the best and the worst defensive records in the Premier League meet at the Hawthorns on Tuesday evening and Manchester City's in-form rearguard should stand firm against West Brom.
The Citizens will be taking nothing for granted despite the disparity between their defensive stats – eight clean sheets in their last ten league games – and West Brom's goals-against tally of 43 in 19 top-flight matches.
The Baggies still managed to frustrate 1-10 shots City in December's reverse fixture at the Etihad, where a Ruben Dias own goal earned them a 1-1 draw.
That result was not enough to save Slaven Bilic's job but the arrival of Sam Allardyce has not sparked a spectacular improvement in results.
Big Sam, like Bilic, claimed an unexpected away point with a 1-1 draw at Liverpool and his side gained a much-needed 3-2 win at Wolves on January 16.
However, West Brom were unable to build on only their second league victory of the campaign and they lost 2-1 at West Ham who, as manager David Moyes admitted afterwards, were not at their best.
More worrying for Allardyce, and for West Brom's prospects of avoiding a swift return to the Championship, is their home form.
In nine league games at the Hawthorns their only points have come from a 1-0 win over bottom club Sheffield United, a goalless draw with Burnley, and a 3-3 against Chelsea when they blew a 3-0 lead.
Five of their six home defeats have been to nil (the other was a 5-1 rout by Crystal Palace) and Allardyce's first three home matches have yielded heavy defeats against Aston Villa (3-0), Leeds (5-0) and Arsenal (4-0).
They face a City side missing the injured Kevin De Bruyne but Pep Guardiola's men are bidding for an 11th straight win in all competitions and West Brom may struggle to land a blow on the title favourites.
City left it late to come from behind in a 3-1 FA Cup win at League Two Cheltenham on Saturday but they had kept clean sheets in 16 of their previous 19 victories in all competitions.
Key stat
Manchester City have won seven of their last ten Premier League matches to nil.
