Match preview

After being hammered 5-0 by Premier League leaders Manchester City, West Brom face two crucial bottom-of-the-table clashes in the next four days.

Sam Allardyce will be targeting maximum points against 18th-placed Fulham on Saturday and bottom club Sheffield United on Tuesday but the Baggies may struggle to drag themselves out of their current slump.

Big Sam has picked up a couple of impressive results away from home, claiming a point against Liverpool at Anfield and beating Wolves 3-2 at Molineux.

However, the Baggies' home form is dismal and the midweek rout by City, who were 4-0 up at half-time, was their fifth consecutive league mauling at The Hawthorns.

Crystal Palace (5-1), Aston Villa (3-0), Leeds (5-0) and Arsenal (4-0) have all dismantled West Brom on their own patch and, while Fulham are less fearsome opponents, another away win looks value.

Scott Parker's men, like fellow strugglers West Brom and Sheffield United, have won only two league matches this season but they are harder to beat than their survival rivals.

Fulham have drawn six of their last eight matches, picking up points at home to Liverpool and away to Tottenham, and the other two games in that sequence were narrow defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Cottagers' defence took time to adapt to the step up to the Premier League but they look far more secure now and, having beaten West Brom 2-0 at Craven Cottage in November, they can complete the double over a side who have conceded 48 goals in 20 games.

Key stat

West Brom have lost their last five home league games by an aggregate score of 22-1.
