Match preview

Poor defending has been the root cause of Manchester United's recent problems and it could dog them again at Watford.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in desperate need of a convincing win to calm speculation over his future, but he has a major problem to solve because his team have conceded at least twice in five of their last six fixtures.

The only clean sheet in that run (a 3-0 success at Tottenham) featured a full 90 minutes from Raphael Varane but the injury-hit French defender is absent this weekend and that will surely encourage the Hornets, who sit two points above the relegation zone.

Watford are also having defensive issues and it would be a major surprise if they achieve a first league shutout of the campaign.

However, they have pace and quality in attack and can play their part in an entertaining contest.
