Manchester City traded at 1-100 in-play to earn the win they needed to seal the Premier League title but the champagne remained on ice after an amazing Manchester United fightback.

Jose Mourinho’s men trailed 2-0 at half-time after a one-sided first 45 minutes featuring goals for City skipper Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan.

United could be backed at in-play odds of 175-1 for victory before Paul Pogba’s quickfire double and a Chris Smalling strike put them 3-2 up.

United backers rode their luck in a frantic finale in which City were denied a penalty, hit the post, and saw David de Gea save brilliantly from a Sergio Aguero header. The 3-2 correct score had been a 40-1 chance before kick-off.

City don’t have much time to dwell on the derby drama and they are 5-1 to overhaul a 3-0 deficit against Liverpool in the second leg of in their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday.

Newcastle moved into tenth place in the table – ten points clear of the relegation zone – thanks to a 2-1 win at Leicester but the teams just above the bottom three had to settle for draws away from home.

Crystal Palace led twice in their 2-2 draw at Bournemouth while there were 1-1 draws for Swansea at bottom club West Brom and Huddersfield at Brighton.

Christian Eriksen’s brace gave Tottenham a 2-1 victory at Stoke and Burnley won by the same margin at Watford, meaning a full house for backers of both teams to score in the Premier League 3pm kick-offs.

There were no such thrills in the early game at Goodison Park, however, as Everton and Liverpool shared a dour goalless draw. No goalscorer had been a 12-1 chance in the Merseyside derby.

Fulham moved to within two points of second-placed Cardiff after a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship but Aston Villa suffered a 3-1 defeat at Norwich.
