Match preview
Arsenal finally get to play at rivals Tottenham's new stadium 15 months after it hosted its first Premier League game, but the Gunners may think it was well worth the wait after Sunday's derby.
Jose Mourinho's appointment as Tottenham manager in November cemented his status as the man Arsenal fans love to hate but he is also struggling to win over Spurs supporters.
Just over a year ago, Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham reached the Champions League final thanks to thrilling victories over Manchester City and Ajax.
Mourinho's Spurs look a meek shadow of that side and their difficult campaign could continue to peter out with a home defeat to Arsenal.
Captain Hugo Lloris admitted during the coronavirus break that the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool had taken a toll on the squad while playmaker Christian Eriksen left for Inter and Harry Kane suffered a serious hamstring injury on New Year's Day.
Heung-Min Son was also sidelined as Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich and thumped by Leipzig in the Champions League shortly before the season was suspended.
But even with Kane and Son back fit, there has been a lethargic look to Tottenham's attacking unit since the restart.
Their five goals in five games include own goals from West Ham's Tomas Soucek and Everton's Michael Keane, as well as a Steven Bergwijn shot that should have been comfortably saved by David de Gea. They failed to muster a shot on target in the 0-0 draw at struggling Bournemouth on Thursday.
The prospect of facing Arsenal's defence is usually enough to pep up any out-of-form forwards but the Gunners have tightened up since switching to a back three following defeats to Manchester City and Brighton.
They kept clean sheets in wins over Southampton (2-0), Norwich (4-0) and, most impressively, Wolves (2-0) and conceded a late equaliser to Leicester on Tuesday only after being reduced to ten men.
They changed managers a month after Tottenham, when Mikel Arteta replaced Unai Emery, and there have been signs of progress under Arteta.
The Gunners are just a point ahead of Spurs but have produced some improved away performances, winning at Southampton, Wolves and Sheffield United in the FA Cup since the restart, and they also drew 2-2 at Chelsea in January despite having David Luiz sent off in the 26th minute.
Luiz saw red just after half-time at Manchester City last month but that defeat was one of just three losses in 20 games in all competitions for Arsenal in 2020.
The Gunners still have the capacity to self-destruct – they were knocked out of the Europa League by a 119th-minute goal for Olympiakos – but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Dani Ceballos may provide enough creativity and cutting edge to see off Spurs.
Key stat
Tottenham have won three of their 16 Premier League games against top-half teams.
