Tottenham can bounce back against leaders Liverpool at Wembley

Premier League leaders Liverpool have made a perfect start to this season but their 100 per cent record could be gone after their difficult trip to take on Tottenham at Wembley.

Spurs are missing key players with Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli injured and they must bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-1 defeat to Watford last time out.

But Tottenham have turned their temporary home into a fortress and that is potentially being underestimated.

This match was originally earmarked for Tottenham's grand opening of their new stadium before further delays were announced, and in an ideal world they would be back at White Hart Lane. But Wembley has been kind enough to the north Londoners after a tricky start.

Manchester City are the only away side to have won at Wembley in Tottenham's last 19 home Premier League fixtures and eight of the last nine finished in Spurs victories. Those clashes included matches against Manchester United and Arsenal, while Liverpool were thumped 4-1 at the national stadium last October.

The absence of Alli and more importantly, Lloris, gives Mauricio Pochettino a selection headache, although it could be argued that it has already been factored into the prices.

City were 17-10 to win at Wembley in April, with some bookmakers making the eventual champions their outsiders. But Liverpool are clear favourites as they aim to continue their 100 per cent start.

It's entirely possible Liverpool are the real deal after heavy summer investment but they will need to be to justify the market confidence.

Jurgen Klopp's first match in charge of Liverpool came at Spurs in October 2015, a goalless draw. Their substitutes that day providing a clear indication of the improvement they have made under the German.

Kolo Toure, Connor Randall, Adam Bogdan, Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe, Joao Teixeira and Jerome Sinclair warmed the bench that day whereas Klopp is now struggling to find a spot in his squad for £50m man Fabinho.

However, for all that Liverpool have improved, there has to be a debate as to whether the Merseysiders are superior to Tottenham on the road despite their lightning start.

This season Liverpool have beaten West Ham and Brighton at home and recorded away triumphs at Leicester and Crystal Palace, scoring nine goals and conceding one for a goal difference of plus eight. Last season in those four matches they also collected 12 points, scored 13 goals and conceded four with a GD of plus nine.

The front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane can be outstanding but the same is also true of Tottenham's trio of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and the returning Heung-Min Son, so back Spurs on the Asian handicap, where a draw returns a profit.
