Swansea are 4-1 to remain a Premier League club at the end of the season after making the surprising appointment of Carlos Carvalhal as their new manager.

Carvalhal, sacked by Sheffield Wednesday after Saturday’s defeat to Middlesbrough, was unable to gain promotion with the Owls in his two full seasons at the club despite substantial financial backing.

The Portuguese boss twice failed in the playoffs and faces a tough task to lift Swansea from the bottom of the Premier League.

The Swans are two points adrift of nearest strugglers West Brom and stand five points from the safety of 17th-placed West Ham.

Swansea are 1-5 with Betfair and Paddy Power to be relegated, while bet365 are only offering 1-12 City finish the campaign with a points total of no more than 36 points. It’s 16-1 Swansea get to 40 points and 9-1 they finish between 37 and 39 points.

First up for Carvalhal is a trip to Watford on Saturday with Swansea 9-2 to bounce back from Tuesday’s 5-0 loss at Liverpool with a victory.
