Premier League transfer rumours: Which teams will be busy in the coming days?

The Premier League transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday, September 1, and while some clubs look to have done all their business and appear happy with their lot, others are still searching for that last piece of the puzzle or prepared to snap up a last-minute deal.

Arsenal

Arguably Arsenal's greatest need now is depth in the wide forward positions.

Bukayo Saka played in all 38 Premier League games last season, starting 36, and so it’s not hard to see why Mikel Arteta’s men have been linked with Wolves' Pedro Neto.

The 22-year-old can play on either flank and seems to have retained his explosiveness and trickery following a major knee injury.

Aston Villa

Due to the long-term injury to new signing Diego Carlos, central defence looks to have returned to the top of Villa’s list of priorities.

A move for Jan Bednarek has been mooted but a loan of Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah might be more of an improvement for Steven Gerrard’s squad.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth have spent money on their defence but could do with further additions at right-back, where the options look limited. Testing Norwich’s desire to hold on to 22-year-old Max Aarons could be a shrewd move.

Brentford

Brentford’s targeting of young players with significant potential has continued in this window and they should look to bring in another young forward to complement Ivan Toney given their reliance on the forward.

Emil Riis scored 16 goals for Preston last season and the Dane could be a natural fit at the Bees.

Brighton

Graham Potter’s Brighton side have started the season in red-hot form given they have lost key players Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma.

A statement signing in midfield would be Manu Kone. The 21-year-old caught the eye at Borussia Monchengladbach last season and has been linked with a number of Premier League teams.

Chelsea

The Todd Boehly era at Chelsea has been typified so far by something of a scattergun approach in the transfer window.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been linked with Anthony Gordon and Wesley Fofana and the latter looks a more solid investment. If a deal for the young French centre back can be struck with Leicester then it would be a major upgrade at the back, where Chelsea have lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s strategy of targeting the best young players in the Championship has reaped rewards in the last few seasons and while there is not a gaping hole in the team at the moment, a young midfielder would not go amiss.

Bristol City’s Alex Scott has already made 41 appearances for the Robins at just 19 and looks to have all the attributes to step up.

Everton

With the injury status of Dominic Calvert-Lewin rearing its head again and Anthony Gordon linked with a move to Chelsea, it’s clear that Everton need to invest in forward areas.

Links with Ben Brereton-Diaz are logical, given that Blackburn are likely to want to cash in on the striker at some point.

Fulham

Fulham have been busy in the transfer market and given their early-season performances, they may be happy to stick with what they have.

Leeds

Leeds did a lot of early business as they tried to replace Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, and while the striker position still looks a touch light, the form of Rodrigo may have pacified some of those fears.

Leicester

With rumours of the ownership wanting out and players linked with big money moves away, it's fair to say that things could be better at Leicester.

If they are to sell Wesley Fofana, they need to get on with it so that they can bring in replacements. The squad clearly needs a refresh and if the owners aren’t willing to put in new money, their assets must be sold as a priority.

Liverpool

Liverpool’s defeat at Manchester United made it clear that their midfield is a problem area, especially given the injuries they have at the current time.

Jude Bellingham would be a statement signing but it remains to be seen if the ownership are willing to test Dortmund’s resolve with a bid.

Manchester City

City got their business done early by capturing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and the powerhouse striker has three league goals under this belt already. Unlikely to make any major moves.

Manchester United

New manager Erik ten Hag has stated his desire to freshen up their squad with new signings and the arrival of Casemiro improves their first 11.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for ten Hag’s former winger Antony but Cody Gakpo at PSV may prove a more cost effective alternative.

Newcastle

After strengthening the defence, the forward areas are clearly the priority for Newcastle. The Magpies are on the verge of signing Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak and he has the potential to be a real star on Tyneside. They could also do with better quality from the right flank.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have been the busiest team in the Premier League this summer, bringing in 16 new signings. They have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi which would be an impressive coup if they were to pull it off.

Tottenham

Tottenham have strengthened their squad throughout, particularly in the wing-back areas, and it’s hard to see them making any more major moves at this stage.

Southampton

Southampton’s strategy of targeting young players at big clubs could be set to continue as they have been linked with Manchester United’s James Garner. The former Nottingham Forest loanee would be an improvement on some of their midfield option.

West Ham

David Moyes told journalists this week that they would laugh if they knew how many players West Ham had bid for and that scattergun approach can lead to issues.

They could do with a more dynamic central midfielder than Tomas Soucek and that seems to be the plan as they have been linked with Brugge’s Hans Vanaken and Lyon’s Lucas Pacqueta.

Wolves

Wolves’ problems going forward have been clear to see for some time and if they lose Pedro Neto they will need further reinforcements.

Bruno Lage’s side have been linked with Sasa Kalajdzic and the 6ft 7in striker would represent an interesting alternative option to their current crop.
