Match preview

Burnley gave their survival hopes a real boost with a thrilling 3-2 win over Everton at Turf Moor on Wednesday night and will want to enhance their outlook further with victory in another crunch relegation clash at Norwich.

The Canaries' time in the top flight looks to be numbered with a seven-point gap between themselves and safety. Dean Smith’s side had lost six on the spin before they ground out a 0-0 draw with Brighton last weekend, despite conceding almost three expected goals.

Norwich are the lowest-scoring side in the top flight by seven goals from Burnley but it is defensive issues that have been their downfall in recent weeks - they have conceded at least twice in all of their last six defeats.

Smith also has a number of injuries to contend with. The absences of Josh Sargent and Adam Idah will blunt their threat in attacking areas and at the back Ozan Kabak, Andrew Omobamidele, Max Aarons and Brandon Williams are either ruled out or nursing knocks.

Burnley’s style also looks likely to cause issues for the hosts, who have conceded 139 shots from set-pieces in the Premier League this season - more than any other side.

Sean Dyche’s men, meanwhile, have created the fourth-most expected goals from set plays and will look to pepper Tim Krul’s goal from dead-ball situations.

The Clarets are 6-4 to win at Carrow Road but the fact that they have won just one of 14 away games this term may temper punters’ enthusiasm.

Despite both sides' struggles to find the net, banking on goals could offer the best angle into the game for bettors.

Five of Norwich’s last seven league matches have contained at least three goals and given Burnley have rediscovered their scoring touch they could trouble a poor Canaries defence.

With safety now in touching distance, motivation couldn't be higher for the Clarets, especially as 17th-placed Everton have a much tougher run-in.

Compared to their hosts, Burnley have a relatively clean bill of health and Maxwel Cornet and Wout Weghorst are quality forward options for a team fighting for their Premier League status.

Weghorst, in particular, can be a serious nuisance for rival defenders and despite scoring only once since his January move, the Dutch striker is key to how the Clarets play, with his movement and presence helping bring others into play.

Given Norwich’s difficulties at set-plays, the 6ft 6in Weghorst looks a nice price at 2-1 to get on the scoresheet today.
