Antonio Conte is the red-hot favourite to become Tottenham's next manager after the club sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.

Conte, who ranges from 1-10 to 1-20 with those still betting on Nuno's replacement, is reportedly on the verge of joining Spurs having arrived in London on Monday.

He had been 2-1 when news first broke of Nuno's sacking in the morning but the 52-year-old Italian was the only person to be backed as it quickly became apparent he was the overwhelming favourite.

Former Chelsea and Juventus boss Conte is out of work following his departure from Inter and has previously worked with Tottenham's sporting director Fabio Paritici in Turin.

Conte, linked with the Manchester United and Newcastle posts in recent days, is a serial winner and would be an eye-catching appointment given Tottenham's struggles since reaching the 2019 Champions League final.

At Juventus, Conte won three Serie A titles before becoming Italy's coach. A move to Chelsea followed where he led the club to Premier League success in 2017, beating Tottenham to the title, and the FA Cup 12 months on. He again overcame Spurs, this time in the semi-finals.

Conte also won Serie A with Inter last season but rarely stays anywhere for too long and he departed San Siro in the summer due to the club failing to match his lofty ambitions.

Reports have suggested Conte will sign a contract until 2023, only a few months after he was previously odds-on to become Tottenham's next manager before the deal fell through and the north London outfit eventually settled on Nuno.

It never looked like being a long relationship and Nuno was given just four months at the helm with the final act being a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Nuno had been 16-1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his current position prior to the weekend defeat, although Spurs fans had turned on the manager days earlier with songs of "Nuno, Nuno make a sub" in Wednesday's 1-0 Carabao Cup success at Burnley.

Those chants turned nasty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday and the Portuguese leaves the club with them eighth in the Premier League.

Nuno had won the manager of the month award in August with a 1-0 success over Manchester City the highlight, however, as well as the United caning they were also outclassed by Arsenal and Chelsea, two of four London derby defeats already this season.

Tottenham face Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and then travel to Merseyside on Sunday to tackle Everton in their last Premier League assignment before the international break.
