Next Spurs manager odds: Erik Ten Hag and Maurizio Sarri lead the market

Who will Daniel Levy appoint as Jose Mourinho's replacement at Tottenham?

Tottenham's search for a new manager has intensified after their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup final but they were dealt a blow on Tuesday when reported top target Julian Nagelsmann signed a five-year deal at Bayern Munich.

Leicester's Brendan Rodgers is reportedly high on chairman Daniel Levy's wanted list but the Foxes gaffer is understood to be reluctant to leave the King Power with his team on the cusp of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Levy has generally had his replacements lined-up - Harry Redknapp and Jose Mourinho, for instance, were both appointed within hours of their predecessors being shown the exit door.

And it would be a surprise if Ryan Mason, who has moved up from head of player development to take charge of the team until the end of the season, was given the job permanently, particularly as Spurs were so disappointing at Wembley.

So who do bookmakers believe could be in line for a move to north London?

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has a year left on his contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena and heads the betting at 21-10. Ten Hag has been in charge of the Dutch giants since 2017, a spell which includes his team's dramatic Champions League semi-final exit to Spurs two seasons ago.

With so little time on his deal in Amsterdam, he could prove a cost-effective option and he may view the end of the campaign as a good time to bow out at Ajax with his side 12 points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.

On the negative side for Tottenham, the 51-year-old is also being touted as a possible replacement for Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig so they could face competition for his services.

Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is 5-1 to give Premier League management another go after spending just one season at Stamford Bridge in 2018-19.

The 62-year-old has managed a host of teams over the last 30 years and could jump at the chance of a return to London.

And he is available having been sacked by Juventus in August after the Old Lady were knockout of the 2019-20 Champions League by Lyon at the last-16 stage.

Two other foreign coaches are also prominent in the betting. Wolfsburg's Oliver Glasner is 10-1 after press reports linked him with the vacancy and there has also been speculation that Ralf Rangnick is a strong contender for the position.

Rangnick is out of work but is renowned as a great coach in Germany and an inspiration for many of the young breed of coaches who have risen to prominence in the Bundesliga in recent years, including Nagelsmann, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp.

He is as short as 10-1 but can back backed at 16-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo and Fulham's Scott Parker are 14-1 alongside Mason and Rafa Benitez, while Brighton's Graham Potter is 20-1.

England's Gareth Southgate and Belgium's Roberto Martinez have also been mentioned despite being only weeks away from leading their nations in the Euro 2020 finals, but it seems it could be quite some time before the situation at Spurs is resolved.
