Team news

Newcastle
Sean Longstaff and Javier Manquillo face late fitness tests after picking up knocks against Bournemouth. Defensive duo Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark remain sidelined with thigh and ankle injuries respectively. Christian Atsu is fit but is expected to miss out on the matchday squad once again.

West Ham
Sebastien Haller and Arthur Masuaku are back in training, but this contest may come too soon for them while Robert Snodgrass is out with a back injury. Mark Noble missed the last game with a tight hamstring but is expected to return to the bench.

Match preview

Newcastle can add to West Ham's Premier League relegation worries with a victory at St James' Park on Sunday.

The Magpies have been in impressive form since the season resumed, racking up 3-0 and 4-1 victories over Sheffield United and Bournemouth either side of a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, and they are suddenly looking up the table instead of down.

With European positions potentially going all the way down to eighth, Steve Bruce's men were just four points adrift of eighth place before the weekend's fixtures and the north-east outfit have an outside chance of sneaking into Europe.

West Ham recorded a brilliant 3-2 win at home to Chelsea on Wednesday, lifting themselves to 16th in the standings, but the amount of energy expended in that game is likely to have an impact.

Michail Antonio, in his post-match interview, admitted how hard the team had to work for that victory and it will be interesting to see whether they have the legs to repeat that effort against Newcastle.

In complete contrast, the Magpies had a stroll in the park in their 4-1 win over the Cherries in midweek and Bruce was even able to give star man Allan Saint-Maximin a deserved rest after he registered three assists.

Goals have also been flowing for Bruce's men - they have netted eight in their last three outings - and that attacking improvement will be a huge relief for a side that had the joint-worst scoring record in the division before the campaign went into lockdown.

Even though there will be no fans present, Newcastle will feel confident of continuing their strong run of form at St James' Park, where they are unbeaten in their last five league games and have conceded only one goal.

West Ham have lost their last seven Premier League matches on the road, conceding 15 times and scoring just four goals, while they have tasted success only twice on Tyneside from their last 15 attempts.

It is also worth noting that the Hammers have not won back-to-back league games since August 31 when they followed up a 3-1 win at Watford with a 2-0 success over Norwich, and David Moyes' men could be in for more away misery.

Key stat

Newcastle have lost just two of their last 15 Premier League games at St James' Park
