Team news

Newcastle
Steve Bruce has said he will be without five players but didn't reveal names. Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles, Martin Dubravka and Allan Saint-Maximin missed the Leeds game in midweek.

Fulham
Kenny Tete is in contention for a place in the squad, but Terence Kongolo is still unavailable and Bobby De Cordova-Reid is a major doubt.

Match preview

Steve Bruce's Newcastle took the lead at Elland Road on Wednesday night but chose to then retreat and invite heavy pressure, which was ultimately their undoing as Leeds ran riot late on and pummelled them 5-2.

But we can expect a far more adventurous approach from the Magpies at St James' Park when they welcome Scott Parker's Fulham so Newcastle are fancied to send the Cottagers back home empty-handed.

Bruce was critical of his side's performance in midweek, and rightly so. Abysmal defending was the most notable fault.

Jeff Hendrick's opener was against the run of play after Leeds had squandered a number of decent chances, but Newcastle should be on the front foot and can apply pressure from the off.

Despite lifting themselves out of the bottom three with a couple of encouraging performances in recent weeks, Fulham remain odds-on for relegation this season.

Parker tried to draw positives from a 0-0 draw at home to Brighton on Wednesday but much more is needed if his side have any aspirations of remaining in the top flight.

The likely return to midfield of both Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie would significantly improve the Magpies, as would a possible return from injury for winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Fulham have already lost four of their six away Premier League fixtures this season, and while their improving backline may keep the damage to a minimum, a narrow home win looks the best bet.

Key stat

Fulham have lost by a single goal five times this season.
