Newcastle raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half of last weekend's 4-1 Premier League win at Fulham but they may have to wait a little longer to take charge against another west London club.

Brentford arrive at St James' Park after a couple of disappointing results – a 3-0 home defeat to Arsenal before the international break and a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth last time out.

They restricted the Cherries to just one shot on target, however, and should be capable of standing firm until half-time against a Newcastle side who have failed to score in the first half of six of their eight league games this season.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney will be eager to impress against his former club but Newcastle, strengthened by Callum Wilson's return to fitness, showed their attacking quality at Craven Cottage and should be backed to grind out another victory.
