Manchester City justified their pre-season tag as odds-on Premier League title favourites and bookmakers are not wanting to take many chances with them for next term either.

City, who were declared champions after a much-changed Manchester United lost 2-1 at home to Leicester, had been 4-5 before a ball was kicked this season and the EFL Cup winners could yet land a treble with a Champions League final to come against Chelsea later this month.

Bet365 and Coral rate City 4-6 for next season's title with Chelsea expected to be the biggest challengers. Thomas Tuchel's team are 5-1 with both firms and Coral go 6-1 about United and dethroned champions Liverpool.

Second-placed United have outperformed their ante-post title odds of 20-1 and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is after more signings to get the Old Traffords giants closer to their Manchester neighbours.

He told BT Sport: "If you want to take up the challenge with them we need to strengthen our squad.

"Congratulations to them. They have had a fantastic season. I am very pleased with my boys that have made it to the last ten days with a Manchester City side that are lauded as the best in Europe.

"We want to take the next step and it might be that we need a couple more to strengthen the squad."

Leicester are 40-1 to win next season's title with bet365 and Tottenham can be backed at the same price. Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is 12-1 to swap Leicester to become Tottenham's next permanent manager.
