Manchester City scored four times in the first 44 minutes of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Sporting and they may not take long to assert themselves against Tottenham.

Spurs conceded twice in the first 20 minutes of last weekend's home defeat to Wolves and City have been ahead at half-time in 16 of their 20 Premier League wins this season.

City are hot favourites to beat a Spurs side who have lost their last three league matches but they have not had things all their own way in recent meetings.

The Citizens have failed to score in three of their last five games against Tottenham, all away from home, and they needed a late goal from defender Aymeric Laporte to seal a 1-0 win in last season's EFL Cup final.

Only two of the last ten fixtures between these teams have produced over 3.5 goals and Spurs, beaten 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0 by Chelsea in January, may struggle to contribute to the goal tally against a top-class home defence.

Raheem Sterling's fortunes at Manchester City have ebbed and flowed over the past couple of years but the England forward is on a hot streak at the moment, following up his hat-trick at Norwich last weekend with a peach of a strike in the rout of Sporting.

Thirteen of Sterling's 14 goals for City this season have come in his last 17 appearances and he has scored five times in his last five home matches against Spurs in all competitions.
