Match preview
Manchester United always hate losing to Liverpool but they can take plenty of positives from Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Anfield and are likely to bounce back with a victory over Burnley at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had a strong last 20 minutes on Merseyside and there was a sense of immense relief among the home supporters when Mohamed Salah sealed the points with an injury-time strike.
The defeat left United five points adrift of Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish and they cannot afford to allow the gap to get any bigger before heading to Stamford Bridge on February 17.
It was a bad news weekend for United, who learned that 14-goal striker Marcus Rashford will be absent for the rest of the winter.
Rashford's injury comes at a time when he has been playing as well as at any stage of his career.
Anthony Martial will have to provide the main goal threat and the Frenchman has impressed in recent home games, scoring twice in the 4-1 success over Newcastle and once in the 4-0 demolition of Norwich.
However, United's goal potential is severely diminished and they may have to lean heavily on their defence, which stood up fairly well to Liverpool's fabulous front three at the weekend.
Burnley make the short trip to Manchester boosted by a much-needed 2-1 success at home to Leicester.
The Clarets rode their luck on Sunday but their full-blooded second-half performance was much closer to the identity they have forged since winning promotion in 2016.
Like United, they are a key striker down with Ashley Barnes facing a month out due to hernia surgery.
Barnes's absence means a run in the side for Jay Rodriguez but the main threat is likely to come from powerhouse centre-forward Chris Wood, who has nine goals in 21 games and is just one short of equalling his best top-flight return.
Despite Wood's excellence, Burnley have netted just six goals in their last ten league fixtures – five of them at Turf Moor.
They tend to be very defensive on their travels, setting up with two rigid banks of four and relying on corners and free-kicks to get the occasional sight of goal.
But those tactics are unlikely to unnerve United, who ran out comfortable 2-0 winners away to Burnley last month.
Another low-scoring success look likely for the Red Devils, who are odds-against to win a contest featuring three goals or fewer.
Key stat
Seven of Manchester United's last nine league matches have featured under 3.5 goals.
